You will have to listen to the song to get the rhythm. I use the top of my nails, and rake them across the strings. Where I place a 'u' above the tab I rake just my thumb nail up the strings (high to low). Where I place a 'd' I rake my middle and ring finger nails down the strings (low to high). I generally hit the strings really hard here; so the open low strings should resound through the entire passage even where I don't explicitly mark them.
